Iran plans to import water from Armenia and Georgia within the framework of restoration plan to save Lake Urmia, Iranian MP Ali Alilu said.

“Iran will import water from with Armenia and Georgia in exchange for oil and gas,” Mehr quoted Ali Alilu as saying.

However, Urmia Lake Revival Committee representative Khalil Saie has said that the plan is yet to be finalized since there are those who have opposed the plan, Tehran Times reported.

The matter has been already discussed between the Iranian and Georgian speakers earlier this month.

Iran plans to restore Lake Urmia that has declined six meters for the past 13 years and lost 85 percent of its water, appearing on the verge of disappearance.
