YEREVAN. – Chairman of the ‘“Midia-Shangal’ Yezidi National Union” NGO Board of the Republic of Armenia (RA), Amo Sharoyan, has issued a statement.
“Pursuant to the draft constitutional amendments (…), seats will be allocated in the National Assembly (…) for the national minorities [of Armenia].
“No less important rights (…) of the national minorities are guaranteed in the RA.
“We [i.e. the Yezidis of Armenia] believe that, making a transition to the parliamentary system, which is a more democratic form of government, foundations will be build for solving the problems our country faces.
“We, underscoring the constitutional reforms and the major systemic changes in them, [hereby] say ‘yes’ to the adoption of the reforms of the draft Constitution,” the statement specifically reads.
The National Assembly will hold debates on the new draft Constitution in early October. Pursuant to this draft, Armenia will make a transition from a semi-presidential to a parliamentary system of governance.
