The Azerbaijani Government will soon express its position on the signing of a protocol amending the agreement on the Russian military base in Armenia, Ali Hasanov, Chief of the public policy department of the Azerbaijani presidential administration told the reporters on Wednesday.

Any agreement signed between Armenia and Russia concerns only these two countries, but the quantity of weapons in the region refers to everyone. These issues are regulated by a flank agreement in conformity with the OSCE concept on security in Europe, he added. “At present OSCE officials and our military experts are clarifying conformity with the quota for arms,” he stressed.

As NEWS.am reported earlier, a protocol prolonging deployment of the Russian military base #102 was signed in Yerevan on August 20. The document was signed by the Russian Defense Minister Anatoliy Serdyukov and his Armenian counterpart Seyran Ohanyan.

Under the protocol, the military base will remain in Armenia for the next 49 years (instead of 25 years). It will also ensure Armenia’s security.
