Azerbaijan’s initiative to get the resolution on Azerbaijan’s occupied territories put on the U.N. General Assembly agenda is nothing but a gamble, which can never have any serious consequences, Eduard Sharmazanov, Secretary of the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) faction, told NEWS.am, commenting on the resolution. The document is to be put to the vote at the U.S. General Assembly on September 9.
Sharmazanov stressed Azerbaijan’s initiatives are aimed at preventing a peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict within the OSCE Minsk Group. “However, RA President Serzh Sargsyan and RF President Dmitry Medvedev stated the other day that a peaceful settlement, as well as the OSCe Minsk Group, had no alternative,” Sharmazanov said.
The draft resolution to be put to the vote at the U.S. General Assembly on September 9 particularly underlines the unacceptability of demographic changes in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone and of destruction of cultural monuments, as well as the need for necessary conditions for refugees’ return.
