At the moment, it is difficult to ensure the normalization of Armenian-Turkish relations; but this does not mean that it is impossible.

Deputy State Secretary of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs of the Swiss Confederation, Ambassador Georges Martin, told the aforesaid to Armenian News-NEWS.am.

“It doesn’t matter what we think; what’s important is that the countries involved in the process have a desire to move forward,” he said. “We want to help. The Zurich protocols [i.e. the Armenian-Turkish protocols that were signed in this Swiss city in 2009] have not reached a deadlock; they are not blocked. We believe that the parties have achieved quite positive results. Now, the implementation of the protocols depends on the steps by the two parties.”

In response to the remark that Armenia was willing to implement these protocols, Martin stressed: “I know, but you need two to tango. It’s indispensable that both countries wish to move together. History is not an instant phenomenon, and sometimes we need to wait a long time. But we want to help, and we will continue to help also in the future.”
