The Heritage Party will be represented in the Armenian Parliament of the fifth convocation, Secretary of the Heritage parliamentary faction Stepan Safaryan told NEWS.am.
The party’s ratings have been constantly rising over the last three years. So the number of its supporters is increasing. Evidence thereof is poll results. “We have been able to accomplish a priority task over the last three years: in 2007 we got into Parliament only due to Raffi Hovhannisyan, whereas we have a team positively perceived by the public now. This period has seen a considerable reduction in the difference between the ratings of the party leader and the party itself,” Safaryan said. The high ratings of Raffi Hovhannisyan, who remains one of the most popular politicians in Armenia, as well as the party’s positive image, create all the preconditions for its success in the 2012 parliamentary elections.
“The Heritage Party was the only opposition force even President Robert Kocharyan was unable to bar from getting into Parliament. True, our votes in the regions were stolen, but we did get into Parliament, which proved one of the few political defeats suffered by Robert Kocharyan. Unable to put up with it, he began spreading rumors that Heritage would not have got into Parliament without his ‘OK’. But we got into parliament without any patronage or bribes. We are also trying to pave the way to the 2012 Parliament for ourselves. Even in case of some rigging, the Heritage Party’s presence in Parliament is inevitable,” Safaryan said.
