The statement made by Novruz Mammedov, Head of the International Relations Department, Azerbaijani presidential administration, which actually challenged Russia’s efficiency as OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chair, is intended for domestic policy and should be regarded as continuation of Baku’s military rhetoric, ARF Dashnaktsutyun member Lilit Galstayn told NEWS.am.

The statement can be considered as a message to Moscow. “I would like this agreement to sway balance in Armenia’s favor but in fact it is obvious that the document is strengthening Moscow’s positions in the region. The agreement is not affecting balance of forces in the region at all,” she noted. According to her, Armenia should not become a weight in the hands of world powers but try to solve the problems itself in case stability and social justice is established in the country. “In any case Russian base’s deployment in Armenia should not be prolonged at the national sovereignty’s expense,” she concluded.

In an interview with the Azerbaijani APA agency, Chief of the Foreign Relations Department of the Azerbaijani Presidential Novruz Mammadov labeled Armenian-Russian protocol prolonging Russia’s military presence as Moscow’s unilateral support to Yerevan. He also questioned Russia’s efficiency as an OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chair. Mammadov strongly criticized passive position of the western states on recent regional processes.
