The U.N. approving or rejecting the Azerbaijan-submitted resolution on occupied Azerbaijani territories, which is likely to be considered on September 9, will not have any substantial impact on the politico-economic life of Armenia or Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR), as well as on the two countries’ security, RA President Serzh Sargsyan stated in Stepanakert, responding to a teacher’s question as to when Azerbaijan stops “snowing” international agencies with its resolutions.

“You had better put this question to Mr. Aliev because I cannot be responsible for Azerbaijan’s policy. The most I can do is to be responsible for Armenia’s policy. At the same time I am somewhat surprised at your still being surprised at Azerbaijan’s actions. I am also surprised at your being concerned over them. May be it is worth concern, but this concern must not in any way affect your work. Your task is to educate children, and those engaged in politics will resolve the problems,” President Sargsyan said.

As regards the resolution itself, the Armenian leader thinks it will likely be supported by the states that have traditionally shown loyalty to Azerbaijan, namely, the members of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC). “I am sure, however, that all the countries that are for a peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and for further negotiations will vote down the resolution. Or they will at least abstain from voting, aware of the fact approving such a resolution cannot have a positive impact on the negotiations,” President Sargsyan said. The Armenian leader stressed Azerbaijan’s step is a major blunder Armenia must take advantage of to achieve its own aims. “But I must be responsible for our actions, which are supposed to show Azerbaijan and the whole world that there is no way back, that Nagorno-Karabakh being part of Azerbaijan is ruled out. We must prove Artsakh is a full-fledged state. Yes, though small, and with problems, but it is a state that must develop and get stronger,” the Armenian leader said.

“Our process is irreversible. It must go on. You must struggle on your front, the military on their front and we, politicians, on our front. And if all of us succeed, each on his own front, we will have fewer problems,” said President Serzh Sargsyan.
