YEREVAN. - Armenia’s ruling Republican Party (RPA) agitation headquarters on constitutional reforms will be headed by the country’s PM Hovik Abrahamyan. Eduard Sharmazanov, Armenia’s ruling Republican Party (RPA) spokesman and Vice President of the Parliament told the aforementioned to Armenian News – NEWS.am today after the RPA’s executive body session.

The RPA Chairman Serzh Sargsyan ordered Hovik Abrahamyan to set up and head the headquarters in the republic for the referendum to be held on December 6. The PM will set it up with partners already in the coming days, Sharmazanov said.

He doesn’t need to go on vacation for that purpose, since Armenia’s legislation on referenda allows combining the responsibilities of the head of the executive authority and organizer of the party’s preparation to the referendum, Sharmazanov said.

Responding to the question on the participation of the President in the campaign, Sharmazannov said: “The campaign will be run by the PM. It’s important to us that the whole public support the constitutional amendments, but it’s also important that the process be in line with the letter and intent of the law.”

On October 5, the Armenian parliament approved the draft constitutional reforms of Armenia. Under the new Constitution, Armenia will switch from the semi-presidential to the parliamentary form of governance.
