YEREVAN. – It is very important that people are aware of and understand what changes the new Constitution of Armenia will bring to their lives.
US Ambassador Richard Mills told the aforementioned to reporters, and within the framework of Friday’s discussion entitled, “Human Rights in New Draft Constitution.”
As per Ambassador Mills, it is also important that all the sides have the opportunity to make use of broadcast TV.
The diplomat, however, did not wish to express his position on the proposed constitutional amendments because, as a US representative, his view would not be appropriate.
The US ambassador informed that he closely follows the developments with respect to these amendments, and he has familiarized himself with the respective assessments by the European Commission for Democracy through Law (Venice Commission), and the Armenian civil society.
Richard Mills also underscored that Armenia’s citizens should not only get familiarized with this draft, but also participate in the relevant debates to be able to make a choice.
The respective constitutional referendum is slated for December 6.
