YEREVAN. - The draft constitutional amendments are a good step forward for Armenia, Secretary General of European Ombudsman Institute Josef Siegele said today at a meeting with the President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan. The former has arrived in Yerevan to take part in the conference “Human Rights in New Draft Constitution.”
President of Armenia assured that the republic will consistently move in the path of implementing reforms, considering them the only way to develop the country. The draft constitutional amendments rest on this idea, he said.
Armenia considers reforms in the sphere of democracy and human rights very important. Here, according to Sargsyan, Armenia has achieved certain success, also due to the support of the European partners.
The President welcomed the forum in Yerevan, saying it was a good opportunity to discuss and exchange opinions. The proposals by experts become a good guide for the further improvement of the sphere, Sargsyan said.
For his part, Josef Siegele noted the importance of effective cooperation also with the Nagorno-Karabakh, expressing satisfaction with the work in NKR.
