YEREVAN. – The Armenian Rebirth social and political union, which is an initiative of Chairman Arthur Baghdasaryan of the opposition Orinats Yerkir (Rule of Law) Party (RLP), has not yet appointed the chief of its constitutional referendum campaign headquarters.

RLP National Assembly Faction member Hovhannes Margaryan told Armenian News-NEWS.am that they will vote against in the referendum and urge the people to do the same.

“We already have set up the joint office of Armenian Rebirth,” Margaryan said. “In the near future, we will develop the fight plan and elect the chief of the headquarters.”

To the query on whether they might join the “No” front against the forthcoming constitutional referendum, the RLP MP responded: “We have come together with 140 initiatives and created our front. I don’t know of another front.”

The referendum on Armenia’s draft constitutional amendments is slated for December 6.

Pursuant to the new draft Constitution, the country will make a transition from a semi-presidential to a parliamentary system of governance.

The opponents of the proposed constitutional amendments, however, consider them to be the authorities’ attempt to hang on to power.
