YEREVAN. – The active “Yes” campaign for the referendum on constitutional amendments will get underway on Sunday.
Deputy chief of the respective campaign headquarters of the ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA), Vahram Baghdasaryan, who also heads the RPA National Assembly (NA) Faction, on Wednesday told the above-said to reporters in the NA.
In his words, they meet every evening and are engaged in relevant organizational work.
“We met with the provincial governors yesterday [i.e. Tuesday],[and] a meeting is scheduled for today with the majoritarian MPs,” Baghdasaryan said. “We are at the phase of preparing posters, [and] are making the schedule of meetings.”
The referendum on Armenia’s draft constitutional amendments is slated for December 6.
Pursuant to the new draft Constitution, the country will make a transition from a semi-presidential to a parliamentary system of governance.
The opponents of the proposed constitutional amendments, however, consider them to be primarily the authorities’ attempt to hang on to power.
