YEREVAN. - The police should handle the issue with the ID cards before the constitutional referendum, Hovhannes Sahakyan, Armenian ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) MP, Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on State and Legal Affairs and the co-author of the draft amendments to the Electoral Code and Law on ID-cards, said in the parliament today. The drafts allow taking part in the voting not only by passports but also by ID-cards, which have been issues in Armenia since 1 January 2014.  

Responding to the question of Heritage faction MP Tevan Poghosyan on whether those voting by ID-cards should be included in a separate list, Sahakyan said a special program is needed for this. “I have talked to the police representatives: this may give rise to difficulties right now. We will most probably gather once again and think about the possible ways of solving the issue in short time before the December 6 referendum. Perhaps a mark will be put in front of the surnames of those voters who voted by ID-cards. This is one of the possible ways, but there might also be others,” he said.
