ARF Dashnaktsutyun commends treaty prolonging Russia’s military presence in Armenia, Chairman of the NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations, ARFD member Armen Rustamyan told the journalists today.

According to him, old security systems, in particular Russian base should remain in the country, unless new ones are created. He stressed that the agreement does not change situation in the South Caucasus, as only deployment terms of the bases are prolonged. Armen Rustamyan stated that the signing date was fixed not by mere chance.  “The Armenian-Turkish process initiated by the Armenian authorities increased threat of war in the region and enhanced the chance of Turkish troops’ deployment in Azerbaijan. Under these conditions, the agreement was signed. No one voices the reasons, but they are supposed,” he concluded.
