The close cooperation between Russia and Azerbaijan is quite natural, and in a certain sense is in Armenia’s interests, Chairman of RA NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations Armen Rustamyan stated at a press conference on August 31.

“Russia is a Minsk Group co-chairing country. If it maintains relations with only one conflicting party, that is Armenia, it will be accused of bias. It will make Azerbaijan’s dream come true: to change mediatory mandate of the OSCE Minsk Group on Karabakh conflict,” Rustamyan said. Russia is obliged to maintain relations with both conflicting parties.

As NEWS.am reported previously, on September 2, RF President Dmitry Medvedev will pay a official visit to Azerbaijan.  Earlier, on August 19, Medvedev paid a state visit to Armenia. Within the framework of the visit, the Armenian and Russian Presidents signed an agreement prolonging the presence of the Russian military base in Armenia and constructing a new unit of the Armenian NPP.
