Complete medical assistance and rehabilitation to those injured in the Armenian passenger bus crash in Tula Oblast (province) of Russia—and who will be transferred to Armenia’s capital city of Yerevan aboard a special flight—will be conducted at specialized institutions.

The Minister of Health of Armenia, Armen Muradyan, noted the aforesaid to reporters.

The Armenian governmental commission, which has been set up in connection with this tragic road accident, is continuing its talks with the injured and their relatives.

A medical consultation was convened in Tula Oblast, during which matters regarding the further medical treatment of the injured were clarified, and the patients whose treatment can be continued in Armenia were set apart.

“There is a positive trend even among the patients at the intensive care unit,” Muradyan said. “Our task is to figure out the future of each patient. Is he staying in Tula? [Or] moving to Moscow, or Yerevan?” 

The injured, whose health condition allows for transport, will head for Yerevan aboard the abovementioned flight. The medical treatment of the others will continue in Russia, and until their state of health likewise would allow them to travel to Armenia.

Thirty-three passengers who were injured in the bus crash, and the bodies of the eight casualties of this tragic accident will arrive in Yerevan from Moscow aboard the said special flight on Thursday evening.

Over four dozen people were affected as a passenger bus, which was traveling from Moscow to Yerevan, crashed on Tuesday at around 2:10am local time, in Tula Oblast.

Seven people were killed on the spot while another passenger died in hospital. Nine of the injured are in serious condition.

There were 59 passengers on the bus, but no children were among them.

The injured were taken to the three nearby hospitals.

A technical malfunction in the vehicle is considered a probable cause of this tragedy. But there is also a possibility that the bus driver might have fallen asleep behind the steering wheel.

The Tula provincial court on Wednesday handed down a two-month arrest for the driver of this bus, Garnik Harutyunyan.
