YEREVAN. – Member of the ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) National Assembly Faction, Gagik Minasyan, assured that the RPA will not resort to any fraud during the constitutional referendum on December 6. 

To the reporters’ query during a press conference on Wednesday, and regarding how they will fight against voting fraud on that day, the RPA MP responded: “We should create such conditions that no participant in any side would be able to commit election fraud by providing lip service.”  

In Minasyan’s words, the RPA will do everything so that the irresponsible persons in their “Yes” camp—for the proposed constitutional amendments—would not cast shadow over the “good deed” they have launched.

The referendum on Armenia’s draft constitutional amendments is slated for December 6.

Pursuant to the new draft Constitution, the country will make a transition from a semi-presidential to a parliamentary system of governance, and conduct completely proportional parliamentary elections.

The opponents of the proposed constitutional amendments, however, consider them to be primarily the authorities’ attempt to hang on to power.
