The union for combat against groundless claims of Armenians functioning in Igdir and sponsored by the Azerbaijani-Turkish nationalists intends to hold a regular ridiculous action of protest.
Organization’s chairman Geksel Gulbey stated that they want to show Armenians’ true face to the citizens of Van. Gulbey noted that they intended to put up a tent commemorating Turks killed by Armenians on September 19 in Van (the day when Surb Khach church is reopened), but the action was banned by the Van administration.
According to Gulbey, the administration allowed to erect a tent only on September 4. “We have learnt from press reports that the citizens of Van intend to host Armenians in their houses during reopening of Surb Khach church on Akhtamar Island. However, we want to show Van citizens who Armenians really are,” he stressed, adding that they would hand books, magazines and CDs telling what Armenians had committed.
Interestingly, anti-Armenian actions of this organization are widely covered in the Turkish press despite few participants they usually gather. No mere coincidence that the organization is based in Igdir, with Azerbaijanis constituting half of its population. For instance, the action of protests held against opening of the Armenian-Turkish border gathered 5 people in Kars.
We believe Turkish police will be able to protect members of this racist organization from the locals who do their utmost to worthily host Armenians.
A month ago Chairman of Van Chamber of Commerce and Industry Zahir Kandasoglu criticized the anti-Armenian statement by Kars Governor Ahmet Kara. “Armenians killed us, not vice versa,” the Governor said. Kandasoglu stated that, as members of Van Chamber of Commerce and Industry, they consider Kara’s statement “inadequate” and believe the Governor should not be engaged in such discussions.
