Azerbaijan’s only chance to have its flat raised in Stepanakert is to recognize the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic, establish diplomatic relations with it and, in conformity with the Vienna Convention on diplomatic relations, get the right to have its flat raised above its embassy in the NKR, RA Deputy Foreign Minister Shavarsh Kocharyan told journalists, commenting on Azeri President Ilham Aliev’s statement that the Azeri flag will be fluttering in Stepanakert in the future.
“Unfortunately, the Azerbaijani leadership’s actions are putting this longed-for day off rather than bring it closer,” Sh. Kocharyan said.
At the opening ceremony of National Flag Square in Baku, the Azeri leader particularly said: “After Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity has been restored, our national flag will be raised in the lands that are still occupied. Our flag will be fluttering in Nagorno-Karabakh, Hankendi, Shushi. We must bring this day closer every moment, and we are doing so. Glory to the Azerbaijani flag! Long live Azerbaijan!”
