YEREVAN. - [Ex-President of Armenia] Robert Kocharyan doesn’t completely understand the motives behind the constitutional amendments, Eduard Sharmazanov, Vice President of Armenian Parliament and ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) Spokesman told Armenian News – NEWS.am after the RPA Executive body session today.

“According to the second president, the reason is to decentralize the over-centralized authorities. I must say that this isn’t the aim. The aim is to ensure stable government,” Sharmazanov said, commenting on Kocharyan’s interview with Deutsche Welle radio station.

In Sharmazanov’s words, in comparison to the ex-President’s previous interview, which included unacceptable and wrong ideas, this interview didn’t have such “coloring.”  “As to his opinion on the situation on the Line of Contact in the zone of Karabakh conflict, I must say he isn’t aware of the whole information. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have said that if the statements of the Armenian side remain on paper, the escalation will recur,” Sharmazanov said.

In the interview with DW, Kocharyan presented his opinion on the normalization of Karabakh conflict, also touching on the constitutional amendments and issues of integration in the Eurasian Union.
