In terms of labor force, science and technology, the construction of Iran-Armenia railway is not at all a problem for China. Hu Xia, Economics Professor at People's University of China, told the aforementioned to Armenian News – NEWS.am.

Responding to the question on prospects of resuming the “Great Silk Road” and Armenia's participation in that project, the Professor said: “I think both countries have a good basis and historic experience for cooperation. Secondly, we have similar field of agriculture and cattle breeding. Thirdly, Armenia and China are developing countries. We have common objectives – to strive for the happiness of our people. And, finally, we have common interests.”    

According to Hu Xia, Armenia and China can supplement each other in the sphere of economy development. “There are great perspectives of cooperation in the spheres of industry, agriculture and energy. Our cooperation must be based on mutual trust,” she said. 

Referring to the construction of Iran-Armenia railway, the Professor reminded that back in 2007, the Chinese government introduced the concept of “going beyond its own borders.” “And this concept already includes the construction of the Iran-Armenia railway,” Hu Xia said.    

The Chinese Ambassador to Armenia Tian Erlong stated that it will be possible to speak about the actual investments and deadlines of the implementation of Iran-Armenia railway project in light of the initiative of creating “economic belt of the Great Silk Road” only after the feasibility study of the program is over.   

At the current stage, two Chinese companies are carrying out pro bono feasibility study projects to assess the appropriateness of the Iran-Armenia railway project implementation.
