ETCHMIADZIN. – Catholicos of All Armenians Karekin II on Wednesday received deputy mayor of the Iranian capital city of Tehran, Mahmoud Salahi, who was accompanied by Iranian Ambassador Seyed Kazzem Sajjadi.

Information Services if the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin informed Armenian News-NEWS.am that the Catholicos said each such visit is a new contribution to collaboration between Armenia and Iran. Karekin II added that interreligious contacts are also an important part of the friendship between the two peoples.

Salahi, for his part, expressed his delight for visiting the Mother See, and conveyed to the Catholicos the greetings by the mayor of Tehran.

In particular, the deputy mayor of Tehran spoke about the similarities and cultural relations between Armenia and Iran, as well as regarding the peaceful and harmonious coexistence between Christians and Muslims in Iran.

Karekin II, in turn, highly appreciated the Iranian authorities’ caring approach toward the Armenian churches and cultural centers in Iran.

The interlocutors also reflected on the manifestations of extremism in the world, and expressed confidence that such phenomena will cease to exist with efforts by the international community.
