YEREVAN. - President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan today received Iran’s Minister of Energy and Co-Chair of the Armenian-Iranian Intergovernmental Commission, Hamid Chitchian.

The President welcomed the guest and the delegation headed by him, expressing satisfaction with the fact that the schedule of the Armenian-Iranian Intergovernmental Commission is not interrupted, the subsequent 13th session being held in Yerevan exactly one year after the last session.

Sargsyan expressed hope that the agenda of bilateral cooperation has enriched as a result of the commission session, and new agreements have been reached.

Referring to the deepening of relations with Iran, Sargsyan attached great importance to the role of the Intergovernmental Commission and the personal input of Mr Chitchian.   

Stressing that Armenia attaches great importance to the relations with friendly Iran, President of Armenia noted that the sincere dialogue and mutual trust established between the two countries suppose maintaining the dynamics of high-level reciprocal visits for the purpose of further expansion and development of the bilateral agenda of cooperation.

The interlocutors attached special importance to fostering the trade and economic relations, as well as the necessity to make full use of the potential available in that sphere. At the meeting, Sargsyan and Chitchian discussed in detail the implementation process of joint, including infrastructure projects, as well as the implementation of the opportunities of mutually beneficial projects.

The interlocutors also referred to the issues on regional cooperation. In that context, they expressed satisfaction with the fact that North-
South energy project is turning into reality, this supposing parallel work between the corresponding systems of Iran, Armenia, Georgia and Russia.

According to Iran’s Energy Minister, the quadrilateral meeting between the representatives of the aforementioned countries held in Yerevan yesterday was an important and efficient step in terms of the solidarity between the countries of that region. In his words, it communicates new quality to the development of both bilateral and multilateral format cooperation.
