YEREVAN. – The year 2015 was eventful for Armenia. It was marked by the Armenian Genocide Centennial. Many countries recognized the Genocide, and Pope Francis’ Mass dedicated to the centennial was a unique phenomenon.

Head of the ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) National Assembly Faction, Vahram Baghdasaryan, told the aforesaid to Armenian News-NEWS.am, as he summed the year that passed.

In his words, however, there was no progress toward the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, and there were also military and civilian casualties.

As for Armenia’s domestic politics, Baghdasaryan noted: “I would like the [political] parties to be based on ideology, so that there would not be break-ups. (…) We have a problem of being established in the opposition domain, and the opposition needs to be consistent.”

Reflecting on the referendum on constitutional amendments in December of last year and the victory of the “Yes” campaign in this plebiscite, the RPA MP specifically said: “I consider this [to be] a great achievement.”

And with respect to the wellbeing of Armenia’s residents, he said he found it to be a success that the existing situation was maintained in the country. 

“Armenia managed to ensure its stability in such a global situation, [and] under the conditions of the regional economic situation,” Vahram Baghdasaryan concluded.
