YEREVAN. - The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) should be concerned about its reputation: this is an institution dealing with exchange of values, but Azerbaijan is turning it into a frontline. Armenia’s opposition “Heritage” party MP Tevan Poghosyan told the aforesaid to Armenian News – NEWS.am correspondent.

In his words, it’s wrong to immediately forecast that the measures of the Armenian delegation aimed at breaking down the voting on two anti-Armenian reports on the agenda of PACE’s January session, will not succeed. “It’s necessary to struggle, at the same time realizing the impact of these documents. These are merely documents analogous to those which were adopted in due course, and I don’t think they will influence the negotiation process. But if these reports are adopted, we shouldn’t feel defeated, but try to protect our interests. We must understand that the decision of the issue is in our hands; these documents won’t live long,” Poghosyan stressed.

He also noted that the format for discussing the Karabakh conflict is the OSCE Minsk Group and not PACE. “No other institution is dealing with this [issue]. But since Azerbaijan is now trying to use its dirty approaches, we have faced such a situation and it’s necessary to take relevant measures. Lessons should be learnt and conflict settlement mechanisms should be created,” the MP said.

In two weeks, two anti-Armenian reports – “Escalation of violence in Nagorno-Karabakh and the other occupied territories of Azerbaijan” and "Intentional deprivation of the residents of the Azerbaijani border regions of water" – will be put to vote at PACE.
