Azerbaijani human rights activist Emin Huseynov petitioned to the European Court of Human Rights, against the Azerbaijani government, reported Turan news agency of Azerbaijan.

According to the source, Huseynov, who is currently in Switzerland, was hiding in the Swiss embassy in the Azerbaijani capital city of Baku for ten months, as he feared being arrested.

But after long negotiations with the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs, he was allowed to leave Azerbaijan with Didier Burkhalter, the visiting head of the Department.

Emin Huseynov maintains that the Azerbaijani authorities have forced him to renounce his Azerbaijani citizenship.

“By depriving me of the citizenship, the Azerbaijani government plans to prevent me from working as a journalist, inform about the political events taking place in the country, and speak about human rights,” he stated.
