YEREVAN. – The sinister reports, which are put on the agenda of the forthcoming Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) winter session, pose a threat because unilateral concessions from Armenia are spoken of for the first time.

Head of the opposition Armenian National Congress National Assembly (ANC NA) Faction, Levon Zurabyan, who is also a member of the Armenian NA delegation to PACE, said the abovementioned at a press conference on Monday.

There are two anti-Armenian resolutions on the agenda of the upcoming PACE winter session. They are PACE MP Robert Walter’s (UK) report entitled “Escalation of Violence in Nagorno-Karabakh and Other Occupied Territories of Azerbaijan,” and PACE MP Milica Marković’s (Bosnia and Herzegovina) report about Sarsang Reservoir in Nagorno-Karabakh, and entitled “Inhabitants of frontier regions of Azerbaijan are deliberately deprived of water.”

“This is no longer a failure, but a shame, and this is impermissible; it’s just impossible to speak about balance and neutrality,” Zurabyan noted. “Robert Walter allows him to speak a patent lie.”

The ANC MP added, however, that the respective present-day situation has come about not only due to the petrodollars and “caviar policy” by Azerbaijan.

“There are serious people in PACE, [and who] defend human rights and are loyal to the real mission of the organization,” Levon Zurabyan said. “They also are outraged by the corrupt policy of Azerbaijan.”

But, in his view, the important thing is not responding to the primitive propaganda by Azerbaijan, since the simplest response in criticism undermines both Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh.

“Our objective is not to allow the adoption of the resolution [at PACE],” he stated. “We need to speak with a speech that is comprehensible for the Europeans. We need to explain that the adoption of such resolutions harms the [Karabakh] negotiation process and creates tension throughout the region, and that these resolutions run contrary to the OSCE [i.e. the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe] Minsk Group. (…) The position of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs is also important here.”
