YEREVAN. – Armenia will be able to cooperate with Iran within the limits which will be agreed upon with Russia, economist Vardan Bostanjyan stated at a press conference on Thursday.
In his words, the recent lifting of the US and EU sanctions on Iran is a positive development also for Armenia.
“Iran is currently following, with its balanced and wise policy, what approaches Armenia has in further cooperation,” Bostanjyan stressed. “Iran, with its population of 80 million, is a boundless market [for Armenia].”
As per the economist, however, Armenia needs to conduct a very fine policy in this regard.
“It’s understandable that we [i.e. Armenia] are in the Russian zone of influence, and from this viewpoint, I don’t think Russia will be excited about the deepening of Armenia’s relations with Iran,” the economist added. “But at least in the foreseeable future, Russia can only silently agree with the [Armenia-Iran] cooperation formats which don’t bother it.”
