YEREVAN. – If Iran and Georgia commence talks regarding natural gas supplies, Armenia will not remain a passive observer.

The Minister of Energy and Natural Resources of Armenia, Yervand Zakharyan, stated the above-said at a press conference on Thursday.

He noted that the Iran-Armenia gas pipeline enables the implementation of such a project.

In addition, two new thermal power plants are planned to be built in Armenia.

“Neither Iran nor Georgia have yet made a final [respective] decision,” the minister stressed. “But Armenia follows the negotiations, and it definitely will take part in these negotiations at any time, when necessary. Yes, the gas pipeline is the property of [the Russian] Gazprom [company], but the gas will pass through the territory of our country.”
