YEREVAN. - New developments might take place in the areas of military cooperation with Iran against the backdrop of lifting sanctions on that country. Armenia’s Deputy Minister of Defense Davit Tonoyan said the aforementioned at the meeting with writers today.

According to Aravot.am, responding to the question on whether there are ways of military cooperation and similarities with other countries apart from Russia and CSTO, Tonoyan aid: “Our cooperation with allies is based on legal and contractual, as well as documentary activity, while the cooperation with the partners is carried out by agreements, jointly signed plans and memoranda. From strategic and political viewpoint, we have close relations with Iran. Considering sanctions imposed on Iran, our cooperation wasn’t wide, but new developments are possible against this backdrop. There is a basis for expansion of relations with Iran in terms of military cooperation.”

In Tonoyan's words, another such country is Georgia, the cooperation with which is expanding: “We hope to have very strong military cooperation,” the Deputy Minister said, stressing that Georgia’s inclination to NATO won’t hinder the cooperation with Armenia.
