YEREVAN. – A cessation of Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) membership would be suicide for Armenia, economist Tatul Manaseryan noted at a press conference on Saturday.

In his words, even though the EEU is still at a phase of being established, there is no alternative to it as an example of a regional economic cooperation organization within the post-Soviet expanse.

“There is no alternative also for Armenia, since they constantly attempted to isolate us [i.e. Armenia] from any integration projects,” Manaseryan stressed.

As per the economist, 2015 was a year of difficulties and ordeals.

“The main risk is that super [national currency] depreciation occurred in all EEU countries,” he noted.

Tatul Manaseryan added, however, that although 2016 will be a difficult year full of ordeals, it will also be a year of important opportunities for both Armenia and the entire region.

The Eurasian Economic Union members are Armenia, Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan.
