China supports Iran’s request to join the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) as the organization’s rightful member-state, says the joint statement signed during the visit of the Chinese President Xi Jinping to Iran, Xinhua news agency reports.

Xi Jinping is currently on an official visit to Iran. As a result of the meeting with Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani, the sides announced about the establishment of a comprehensive military cooperation. Jinping was the first world-class leader to have visited Iran after the lifting of sanctions imposed on Tehran against its nuclear programme.  

Earlier, the UN sanctions hindered Iran’s entrance to SCO, RIA Novosti reports.
