YEREVAN. – The Final Statement, which was adopted at the end of the recent EU-Armenia Parliamentary Cooperation Committee meeting in Strasbourg, France, was more favorable.

Committee member Aghvan Vardanyan, who is also Secretary of the National Assembly Faction of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF) Dashnaktsutyun Party, noted the aforementioned at a press conference on Monday. 

In his words, potential anti-Armenian wordings were removed from this statement, and it was adopted almost unanimously. 

As per Vardanyan, the statement’s items concerning the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict are noteworthy.

Accordingly, its item No.11 states that the Committee “supports the creation of a mechanism to investigate ceasefire violations, as repeatedly called for by the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs.”

Furthermore, the Armenian and EU MPs remind that the Minsk Group Co-Chairs noted on September 26, 2015 that “Armenia has agreed to discuss the details of this mechanism, urging Azerbaijan to do the same.”

“The recent rise in tension doubtless shows that the status quo has become unstable, and there can be no alternative to a [Karabakh conflict] settlement based on the precepts of the UN Charter, Helsinki Final Act, and international law,” Vardanyan noted.
