YEREVAN. – Several dozen members of the “For Law” Public Movement on Monday staged a protest outside the British Embassy in Yerevan, the capital city of Armenia.   

The demonstrators expressed their concern over the two anti-Armenian resolutions that are expected to be put to a vote on Tuesday at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) Winter Session in Strasbourg, France.

They are PACE MP Robert Walter’s (UK) report entitled “Escalation of Violence in Nagorno-Karabakh and Other Occupied Territories of Azerbaijan,” and PACE MP Milica Marković’s (Bosnia and Herzegovina) report about Sarsang Reservoir in Nagorno-Karabakh, and entitled “Inhabitants of frontier regions of Azerbaijan are deliberately deprived of water.”

The UK Deputy Head of Mission to Armenia, Amias Moores, approached the members of this movement, and the protesters handed to him their demand to British Ambassador Judith Farnworth, and with a request that she mediate so that Walter retracts his report. 

Moores promised to deliver this request to the ambassador.

In addition, the organizers of the protest tried to give the Armenian trout caviar to the embassy, and as a symbolic “bribe” stressing that PACE is becoming a victim of Azerbaijan’s “caviar diplomacy.”

The Deputy Head of Mission, however, did not accept the caviar saying that the “Ambassador is a vegetarian.”

Instead, Amias Moores invited two members of this movement to discuss their concerns with the British ambassador. The youth, however, refused to meet with her.

Speaking to reporters at the end of the picket, coordinating member of the movement Arman Ghukasyan noted that it will be appropriate to meet with the ambassador after the developments in connection with the aforementioned reports at PACE.
