YEREVAN. - The Defense Minister of Armenia Seyran Ohanyan today summed up the results of the last academic year.

At the meeting with journalists today, the Minister stated that the year 2015 was one of achievements and strengthening of positions for Armenia.

Ohanyan also noted that the Ministry’s work was carried out in a very tense situation – infiltration attempts and firing form the side of the adversary, the caliber of the Azerbaijani side being raised to maximum: grenade launchers, mortars, air defense system and even tanks were applied. 

“It was possible to suppress the adversary not only in military clashes, but also thanks to preventive measures, ensuring relative peace on the border,” Ohanyan said.

Among the most important directions, the Minister mentioned the fulfillment of military tasks, raising of combat readiness, military and technical cooperation with partner states, as well as improvement of technology and military equipment. In fact, in line with acquiring foreign military equipment, national defense manufacturing is developing.  

The Minister noted the successful development of ties in the framework of the CSTO and NATO partners, bilateral relations with Russia, U.S. and other countries, as well as Armenia’s participation in peacekeeping missions and holding of different military trainings, specifically the large-scale “Shant” trainings. Apart from this, work was carried out on reviewing the defense strategy, the results of which are included in the Development Plan for 2016-20.  

Year 2016 has been announced as one of commander training, aiming to raise the preparation level of the commander staff, and thus that of the overall Armed Forces.
