The U.S. Department of State has warned its citizens about the danger of travelling to Iran, since the risk of their arrest and detention still remains there.
“Various elements in Iran remain hostile to the United States. … Iranian authorities have unjustly detained or imprisoned U.S. citizens, particularly Iranian-Americans, including journalists, businessmen and academics, on charges including espionage and posing a threat to national security,” the message reads.
Iranian authorities have also prevented the departure of the U.S. citizens, this being especially applied to dual nationals of U.S. and Iran.
Considering the absence of diplomatic relations between the countries, the U.S. cannot provide protection or consular services to those citizens, RIA Novosti reports.
