The Minister of Minister of Ecology, Sustainable Development and Energy of France, Marie-Ségolène Royal, informed that the French government plans to build a road with solar panels, within the next five years.
A tender has been announced for the construction of this 1,000-kilometer road, and the respective candidates will be selected starting in April.
Experts have calculated that the energy to be received from one kilometer of this road should meet the energy demand—excluding heating—of 5,000 people.
Accordingly, the 1,000-kilometer road should meet the energy requirement of 5 million people, or 8 percent of the current population of France, according to Geektimes.ru.
