YEREVAN. – In January 2015, Armenia became a Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) member, which stems from Armenia’s strategic interests and opens new opportunities for the economic development of the country. 

The above-said is noted in the 2015 Annual Report by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Armenia.

As of February 2016, Armenia’s ex-Prime Minister and previous Ambassador to US, Tigran Sargsyan, will chair the Eurasian Economic Commission Board, the executive body of the EEU, for a four-year term. 

“In September 2015, Armenia assumed Chairmanship of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), continuing to act as an initiator and an active participant in this organization,” the report also reads.

In addition, the report stated that the strengthening of the allied and strategic partnership with Russia continued to occupy a central place on the foreign policy agenda of Armenia.
