“The Nagorno-Karabakh peace process is sheer madness. Why are we negotiating at all, if the negotiation process does not bring any improvement,” Hayk Balanyan, a member of the Sardarapat movement, told reporters September 15.

According to him, Azerbaijan is applying a “salami strategy” to Armenia in the context of Nagorno-Karabakh - a strategy similar to that the U.S. applied to Russia. “In the international arena Azerbaijan is pushing through its own principles. Stakes are not high, but the salami slices are regularly served to the international community. When Armenia sees what has been cut off from in ten years, it will realize how much it has lost,” Balanyan said allegorically.

As regards the postponement of consideration of Azerbaijan’s resolution to the 65th session of the U.S. General Assembly, Balanyan is sure that it was not at all Armenia’s diplomatic victory. “Azerbaijan was promised something great for withdrawing the resolution. A mission will arrive in Nagorno-Karabakh to see the liberated territories unsettled. An attempt will be made to return a couple of villages to Azerbaijan by turning this political problem into a humanitarian one,” Balanyan said.

He also commented on the recent events in the Armenian army. “If the system is rotten, nothing can be done without radical reforms. Instead of stating their intention to find and punish those guilty, the Ministry of Defense is trying to conceal the incidents and punishing those who put a video on the well-known website,” he said.
