YEREVAN. – The Minister of Energy and Natural Resources of Armenia, Yervand Zakharyan, on Wednesday received Hossein Samiei, the newly appointed International Monetary Fund (IMF) Mission Chief for Armenia, and Teresa Daban Sanchez, the IMF Resident Representative for Armenia.

The Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources informed Armenian News-NEWS.am that, during the talk, the minister presented the current situation and the prospects for development of Armenia’s energy system.

Also, Zakharyan informed the IMF officials that work is underway to extend the lifetime of the second energy unit of the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant, and as a result, the nuclear plant will continue operations until 2027.

In addition, the minister informed that two new thermal power plants are planned to be build in Armenia.
