NATO is not directly involved in the process of resolving the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

James Appathurai, the NATO Secretary General’s Special Representative for the Caucasus and Central Asia, stated the above-said in the Azerbaijani capital city of Baku, according to APA news agency of Azerbaijan.

Appathurai said he discussed the current status of the conflict with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, and Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov.

“Our position is that we support [the OSCE] Minsk Group’s efforts and a peaceful resolution to this conflict,” he stressed. “NATO has a stance with regard to the conflict. The situation along the contact line causes escalation. This is a complicated situation. The Alliance thinks the sides should work find a peaceful solution.”
