YEREVAN. – Iran considers Armenia an alternative option for supplying its energy resources to Europe, Iranian Studies specialist Gohar Iskandaryan said at a press conference on Tuesday.

In her words, Iran very much needs a respective alternative route.

“The energy resources of Iran are supplied to Europe via Turkey. Armenia’s territory is actually seen as an alternative route,” Iskandaryan stressed. “But there is the financial issue here. Can Armenia find the necessary financial means?”

In the expert’s view, Iran wants to supply its energy resources via Armenia, and not Azerbaijan because in case of a strain in Turkish-Iranian relations, Azerbaijan will side with Turkey.
