YEREVAN. – Although the European Union (EU) has allocated US$5 billion to refugees, Armenia has received nothing from this money.

The Minister of Diaspora, Hranush Hakobyan, on Wednesday noted the above-said speaking at a workshop.  

In the minister’s words, the sole assistance which Armenia has received is that from the UN Office, which provides financial assistance every year.

“Of course, we need to set apart Kuwait, Austria and Russia, which have assisted our Syrian compatriots [in Armenia], with various means,” Hakobyan added.

She noted that the Syrian Armenian refugees in Armenia face two challenges: housing and employment.

“But Armenia is not able to solve them on its own,” the minister said. “To that end, our country is collaborating with international organizations, donor countries, [and] the [Armenian] Diaspora organizations.”
