YEREVAN. – Customs officers could be seen in large stores in Armenia, and to work with foreigners, Deputy Minister of Finance Vakhtang Mirumyan on Wednesday stated at Parliament.   

He recalled that the foreign citizens, who purchase products of personal use in Armenia, get a refund of the value-added tax (VAT) they had paid when buying these goods.

But this refund is made at the customs, and to ensure that these products are brought out of Armenia.

“For the convenience of the guests of the republic, we can consider organizing the VAT refund on the spot, in the shopping centers where there is a huge flow of foreigners,” Mirumyan said. “But we will need to check after that also that they are taking the product with them. The [respective] mechanisms need to be discussed.”
