YEREVAN. - The power issues should not be used to draw dividing lines between Armenia and Russia.  

Chairman of the Public Services Regulatory Commission of Armenia (PSRC), Ruben Nazaryan, stated the aforementioned in the parliament today, responding to the question of opposition MP Nikol Pashinyan.

The latter expressed dissatisfaction with the fact that although the Electric Networks of Armenia CJSC (ENA) had debts for power purchase in 2013-15, it accurately made payments to the plants with Russian capital: “So, whose interests did the ENA serve – that of the Armenian consumer or someone else?” Pashinyan said.

In response, Nazaryan confirmed that the former owner of ENA didn’t owe Hrazdan Thermal Power Plant (TPP), which is also owned by Inter RAO.  

For such a discriminatory approach, the PSRC fined the ENA in accordance with the law. “But the energy shouldn’t be used as a pretext to draw dividing lines between Russia and Armenia. Our Commission is apolitical. I will give you another example: we used to pay about $189 for gas, but in 2015 the Russian partners met us halfway and lowered the tariff up to 165,” Robert Nazaryan stressed.
