YEREVAN. – From the political viewpoint, Armenia should not combine the Eurasian and European economic directions, economist and former MP Vardan Bostanjyan said at a press conference on Friday. 

He added that Armenia needs to be able to maintain a balance between the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) and the European Union.

Bostanjyan noted that, aside from economic development, there is also a political factor.

“The West wants to take us [i.e., Armenia] away from Russia, but a security matter exists,” the economist stated. “This doesn’t mean that Russia is completely committed to ensuring the security of Armenia. However, the Russian factor plays a restraining role for the neighbors [of Armenia].” 

But the ex-MP added that “angels” are not assembled in the West either. 

Also, Vardan Bostanjyan stated that Armenia can at least produce goods that will be in demand in the EEU market.
