YEREVAN. – In 2016, Armenia has a chance to double the exports of agricultural products to the other Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) countries, economist and former MP Vardan Bostanjyan stated at a press conference on Friday. 

In his words, the EEU—which comprises Armenia, Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan—is a 170-million-strong market, where there is a need for new products.

And reflecting on the Iranian factor in the context of Armenia’s economic development, Bostanjyan recalled that the international sanctions on Iran are lifted.

“This gives Armenia a great opportunity to develop,” he added. “Iran needs stable ties. Armenia could become one of the important roads for Iran. In this case, Armenia will have a large turnover.”

From that perspective, as per the economist, Armenia should run a corresponding policy. 

“Yerevan needs to intensively conduct a flexible policy, so as to be able to strike a deal with a strong partner like Tehran” Vardan Bostanjyan concluded.
