YEREVAN. - Representatives of Armenia’s mining companies are concerned about the plans to increase the payment for subsurface use by 30-50 percent.

Representatives of the Union of Miners and Metallurgists of Armenia told the aforementioned to Armenian News – NEWS.am correspondent.

At a recent discussion, company specialists noted that the drastic drop in metal prices on the global markets (without a perspective for recovery yet) has placed the metal mining in Armenia (mainly copper, molybdenum and gold) into a difficult position: some of the companies operate at a loss.

At the same time, these companies (in Kajaran, Agarak, Alaverdi and Akhtala) are township-forming enterprises, which impact the economy of not only those cities, but also the surrounding regions.

Considering this, the representatives of mining companies have decided to submit to the Finance Ministry their own proposals on the new Tax Code.
