YEREVAN. - The normalization of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is a priority for the EU.

High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Federica Mogherini, said the aforementioned at a briefing in Yerevan today.

According to her, the status quo cannot be maintained, and there can be no military solution either. The EU representative underscored the importance of the peaceful settlement of the conflict in compliance with the international law and on the basis of Madrid principles. At the same time, Federica Mogherini stressed the importance of continuing the dialogue on a high-level.

In her words, the tension intensity should be reduced. At the same time, it is necessary to refrain from military rhetoric and growth of violence, which harm the peace process, Mogherini added.

Moreover, she noted that the EU backs the initiative on creating investigation mechanisms. In Mogherini’s words, EU is also ready to contribute to improving personal contacts between the peoples.
